Why the VPS location is chosen before you order
A VPS is the path between the visitor’s browser and the machine the site runs on. A longer path means a slower page. OwnHost keeps that choice in two catalogs. Do not mix them. Istanbul and Frankfurt VPS is one list. The country locations are another list.
A location is not a millisecond table. OwnHost does not publish a fixed latency for a city. Check from the city your own visitors use. The pages below state the city, the catalog, and the plan range.
Istanbul and Frankfurt are a separate list
Istanbul VPS is for sites opened from Turkey. Frankfurt VPS is the list in the MyLoc facility. Both start at $2.49 a month, the CPU is Intel Xeon, and the plans include IPv6. That table is not the VPS x4 list on the country pages below.
If the audience is in Turkey, start with Istanbul. The MyLoc Frankfurt product in Germany is not the Falkenstein page. Price, disk, and IPv6 differ. The plan-by-plan breakdown is in the Istanbul and Frankfurt plans article.
Europe: Sofia, London, Dublin, Falkenstein
Bulgaria VPS is in Sofia. Visitors in Romania, Greece, and Serbia do not detour through London or the United States. If most of the audience is in Turkey, compare Istanbul as well.
UK VPS is in London. A site opened from the United Kingdom does not belong in a US or Australian city. For traffic inside Ireland, use the Ireland VPS page in Dublin. London does not mean OwnHost peers at one named exchange.
Germany VPS is in Falkenstein, in Saxony, near the Czech border. It is the better exit for work opened from Germany, Czechia, Poland, or Austria than a city in the United States or Asia. This page is not the MyLoc product in Frankfurt. The Frankfurt list starts at $2.49 a month. The Falkenstein list starts at $4.49 a month.
The Americas: four US cities and Beauharnois
USA VPS puts four cities on one page: New York, Los Angeles, Miami, and Dallas. The price is the same. New York is for the East Coast and for Atlantic traffic from Europe. Los Angeles is for California and the Pacific. Miami is the exit used for Florida, the Caribbean, and the north of South America. Dallas is for the south-central states. There is no published speed ranking of the four cities.
Canada VPS is in Beauharnois, southwest of Montreal, in Quebec. That address fits French-speaking eastern Canada. For Toronto or the west coast, New York or Los Angeles may land closer. We do not say which is faster until you measure it. Vancouver is a long path inside the country.
Asia and the Pacific: Karachi, Singapore, Sydney
Pakistan VPS is in Karachi. A site opened in Pakistan does not need a detour through a server in Europe. Traffic from the Gulf also stays on this side of the map compared with Europe.
Singapore VPS is for work opened from Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand. It is a large connection point. We do not claim a named peering contract. An Australian audience does not belong on this page.
Australia VPS is in Sydney. For visitors in Australia and New Zealand, London or New York crosses an ocean. For a Southeast Asian audience, use Singapore. That path is shorter than Europe and longer than a path inside Sydney.
What does not change on the country locations
From Sofia to Sydney the monthly price on the country catalog is the same. The list starts at VPS x4 for $4.49 a month and runs to VPS x32 at $24.00. The port is 1 Gb/s. That is port speed, not an unlimited traffic quota.
The CPU is a choice at order: AMD Ryzen or Intel Xeon Gold/Platinum. Not every CPU is Ryzen. This catalog does not include IPv6. The Istanbul and Frankfurt list does. Windows starts at VPS x8, with 4 cores and 8 GB of RAM. VPS x4 is Linux only. The detail is in the country-location VPS plans article.
Which page to open
- Visitors in Turkey: Istanbul, and Frankfurt when you need that facility.
- The Balkans: Sofia. The United Kingdom: London. Ireland: Dublin.
- Central Europe and Falkenstein: the Germany page. MyLoc Frankfurt has its own page.
- The United States: four cities. Eastern Canada: Beauharnois.
- Pakistan: Karachi. Southeast Asia: Singapore. Australia and New Zealand: Sydney.
The city is where the site is served. The plan is CPU, RAM, and disk. Do not mix the two on one page. Pick the location first, then open that location’s own plan page.
